To be honest; it is not the best Cape Town season this year. This week we had some one-hour sessions in the evenings, but not the hauling winds and massive waves you hope for. Still, we are enjoying ourselves perfectly well! We kitesurf, hike, run, surf, SUP, watch Minds Wide Open on big screen, work a bit more, eat muffins, try out our GoPro camera’s, sort out pics and update our blogs! We are hoping for some more wind here these last weeks and looking forward to sail the Dutch waters with friends in April!
The first week was a blast! We drove up to Langebaan for a lekker kitesurfing session to get rid of the airplane-stiffness. And the rest of the week we sailed every day at Sunset or Melkbos. SO good to be back! Slightly overconfident, but super enthusiastic I over rotated a backloop and tried to smash my board…board-arm: 1-0… My fingers did not quite work anymore and bruises from wrist to armpit…how pretty?! After 5 days I gave it a try, but conquering the waves appeared to be rather hard with 1.5 arm… while trying to waterstart I hit my fin and again…fin – foot: 1-0. ARGHH, 3 stitches and no sailing for at least 5 more days (I was bargaining for 4, but lost). Now, my arm and foot could recover synchronous, what made this week a sort of efficient! After another week I went back on the water and my foot as well as my arm are doing perfectly fine again!
Just after New Year’s Eve we, Josine Schmitz and me, left home for a Cape Town summer! We are happy to skip this year’s Dutch winter and enjoy the South African South Easterlies instead. Until the beginning of April I will be here in CPT, than 6 weeks back in Holland before I leave for another 3 months to the Canary Islands. I will continue my work at the Delft University of Technology and without the full support of my supervisory team this wasn’t possible! I am super happy to have the opportunity to train these 6 months full time, and I would like to thank my sponsors for the best equipment I could imagine!! Thanx to you all, I will work hard, train harder and enjoy even more!!:D
